Make Difficult People Disappear a book review

So we all hit speed bumps in our career where we feel like we start and stop or should I say stall. You get to a point where you look around and say what am I doing? Well I have been lost in a world of some really great books over the past few weeks. I thought it would be nice to check out a self help book and take a break from the vampires.

After a close encounter with some very difficult people, I wanted to do some self evaluating because lets just say I let it get to me and I didn’t like the way it made me feel. Looking for some new and positive suggestions this title made me laugh out loud so I purchased it.

Make Difficult People Disappear: How to Deal with Stressful Behavior and Eliminate Conflict by:Monica Wofford ~A workplace fable~ This was a really great ideal written in the form of a fable so it completely held my attention. While giving suggestions on overcoming labels and chasing all the extra people out of your head. It was also very interesting because it not only pulled in the issues that you may encounter at work; it also showed how your home life could also mirror those same issues.

The best suggestion in this book was reminding you to be yourself and stop conforming to what you think will get you praise. It mentioned how people feel faking it until you make it is the way to go when in reality faking who you are can turn you into an extremely hostile person because the unhappiness will eventually take over. It also mentioned how sometimes in a company you can look at management and feel like it could never be you because you are nothing like the people in charge. This is where you have to have confidence in who you are and show how even though your different you can bring a different quality to the company.

Also if everyone thought, felt and acted exactly like you, how could you possibly appeal to different customers if your view was so one sided. This is a tale that can definitely get dialog going and self evaluation going. In the end people may not change but if they are equipped with a better view of how to receive different behaviors, they can better react and respond with a more compatible response.

My only disappointment in the book is that none of the tools that are mentioned to determine your personality are provided in the book, that will require signing up for a course. Giving a short assessment in the book would have earned a few more brownie points from me now giving a breakdown of the labels is a great hint to make you want more.

So which one are you :

This is a well written story that has made me think of ways I can accept some of the behaviors of people in a new light and meet them at there best.
